    German Sawmills To Cut 15% More By 2015

    Half of the German sawmills expect a deterioration of the log supply and rising log prices (on average by 12 percent) up to 2015. This is one of the results of a new survey of the consultancy Schwaerzer & Partner from Munich presented at the 2012 sawmill congress of the association of the German sawmill and wood industry, VDS.     Germany: Warm Winter Troubles Pellet Producers

    In Germany, continuing warm weather conditions force sales of pellets down. Across the board, pellet producers reported a significant reduction in sales volumes. "At these temperatures, people simply need less", a manufacturer's declares unemotionally. Drop in demand vary within a wide range of 30 to 70 percent in January compared to the usual sales.     Germany: KVH Prices Pressurized Without Trouble

    Non-integrated manufacturers of finger-jointed squares and beams (KVH) currently seems to have a price advantage. They can use special offers in raw squares of a few large sawmills and so reduce prices for KVH products. In the face of the high log prices, price query for November and December in KVH surprises with low results.     China's Industry Throttles Demand for German Oak

    Oak log exports to China show a heavy drop in the August figures of the German federal statistical office Destatis. In August, Germany exported just 400 cbm Oak to China, a decline of 88% from the previous year. Demand of the timber industry in China has dropped sharply. Volumes intended for export in the hardwood season 2010/2011, were still offered to German sawmills in the past few weeks. [more...]
